Jimmy Lon "Jim" Albright: 1933-2013

&nbsp;

DALLAS — Jimmy Lon "Jim” Albright, 79, of Dallas died Saturday, May 4, 2013.
Memorial service will be at 11
a.m. Thursday in Prestonwood Baptist Church Chapel, Plano campus, in
Plano. Arrangements are by Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery of Dallas.
Jim was born Sept. 18, 1933, in
Amarillo. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1952 where he was
involved in Ken Klub, Allied Youth, National Honor Society, and National
Athletics Honor Society. He was a two-year quarterback letterman in
Sandie football and was inducted into Sandie Hall of Fame in 2007. Jim
was a 1957 graduate of University of Texas in Austin where he received a
Bachelors of Business Administration degree with a minor in chemistry.
He was a member of Phi Kappa PSI fraternity and was a member of American
Institute of Chemical Engineering. He worked for 45 years with Univar USA, a world- wide distributor of industrial chemicals.
Jim was a member of Society of
Cosmetic Chemists, and the National Chapter of Chemical Specialty
Manufacturing Association in Washington D.C. Jim was on the Board of
Directors of the North Texas Rehabilitation Services. This agency
rehabilitates, trains, and places the intellectually challenged
population into the workforce. They have placed 1,500 in the workforce
in 15 years. Jim volunteered for Special Olympics Texas, where he was a
member of the Development Committee North Texas for two years and
Chairman of the Auction Committee for four black-tie gala fundraisers.
He was also a volunteer for Special Olympic Games. Jim received the
Special Olympic Area 10 Top Fundraiser Award in 2004 and 2006 and
personally raised close to $1,000,000 for Special Olympics. One item
that raised $200,000 was a football signed by every living recipient of
the Heisman Trophy. Jim spent two and a half years and flew 70,000 miles
to get the 54 signatures on the football.
After completing the football, he collected signatures of all living Cy
Young Award recipients on baseballs. He accomplished this goal, and the balls were sold for another $200,000.
He was a finalist for Dallas Cowboys Community Quarterback Award for
charitable efforts. Jim was a well-known and avid University of Texas
and Texas Rangers fan. He and his wife frequently traveled across the
country to attend games for both teams. Jim was a Christian and taught
Sunday school for 14 years, was Chairman of Deacons at Northway Baptist
Church, and an active deacon at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano. He
was always willing to share his faith with anyone he came in contact
with even up to his last days. He was willing to generously share other
blessings God had given to him. He was a beloved husband, father and
grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Grace Albright; and two nephews, Steve Hall and Michael Hall.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Kaye Frances Rinqs Albright;
two daughters, Kate Albright of Dallas and Karrie Albright Phipps and

Christine Powell

Send Condolence Link | Send Flowers Link | Back to List

BORN: Thursday August 9, 1945 DIED: Friday April 19, 2013 After sharing her life with Mayme
Allen since December 1976, Christine Powell left this earth the day
before Mayme in April 2013. Although family and friends left behind
mourn our loss, we are grateful that they are still together, as they
were each day for the past 37 years.
Christine Powell was born to LaBerta ‘Lacey’ and Stephen Powell on August 9, 1945 in Wichita, Kansas, where she spent her childhood.
After attending Drake University
in Des Moines, Iowa, Chris joined Braniff Airlines, traveling the world
as a flight attendant, a job she loved, until Braniff closed operations.
She subsequently worked as a periodontal assistant in Dallas. After
moving to Lubbock, Texas, she worked as Office Manager in the office
equipment and supply business, first for Data-Line Office Systems and
later Benchmark Business Solutions, until her retirement in 2010. While
on the job Chris always went the extra mile to help others and was the
"go to person” for any questions regarding company operations,
accounting, and inventory.
Chris is survived by her brother
Stephen and sister-in-law Glenda of Rio Rico, Arizona. She was preceded
in death by her parents Steve and LaBerta ‘Lacey’ Powell.
Both Chris and Mayme had a deep
compassion for all animals and adored and doted on their schnauzers:
Kim, Gus, Jesse, Sam and Jenny. They were both avid readers and excelled
in all kinds of word puzzles and word games, as well as fact and trivia
based games. Both were also fans of women’s college basketball,
especially the Texas Tech Lady Raiders and University of Tennessee Lady
Vols, and possessed an amazing knowledge of basketball facts. Fittingly,
their last trip together, in late March and early April 2013, was to
the ‘sweet sixteen’ women’s college basketball playoff games. Chris’
talent for organization and Mayme’s sense of aesthetics and style
combined to create a home that was always a delight to visit. They were
both known for their sharp wits and keen senses of humor. Most of all
they will be remembered as generous, caring, and supportive friends.
We loved each of them and will miss them deeply.

Ross Reed Byers

Ross Reed Byers

June 28, 1913 - January 13, 2013

Obituary

Ross
Reed Byers was born in Wapanucka, Oklahoma, to Carry Byers, a native of
Waco, Texas, and Harry Byers, an immigrant from the Prussian port city
Stettin, Germany. When Ross was young, the family moved to Atoka,
Oklahoma, where he finished his upbringing. Upon graduation, he attended
college in Oklahoma City. During the Great Depression, he started a job
with Braniff Airways, an upstart company in the "new" airline industry.
He chose to take a leave of absence from Braniff during the onset of
World War II, when he volunteered for the U.S. Navy and was chosen to
decode Japanese messages at Bainbridge Island, Washington. During the
war, he was promoted to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Ross was proud
of his time serving in the Navy. Upon his honorable discharge, he
returned to a fruitful career with Braniff
International , where he worked as a manager of Passenger Relations .
In 1951, he began dating an airline hostess by the name of Louise
Laursen, who would later become his wife. Upon retiring from Braniff in
1964 after a career spanning 26 years, he decided to move to San
Francisco, California. After a long courtship, Ross married Louise on
May 29, 1966, at a friend's home in Dallas, Texas. They returned to San
Francisco and started a family. Reed Henry Byers was born in Redwood
City, California, in 1968. Rachel Louise Byers was born in 1971, just a
few months after they had moved to Houston. He spent the next 21 years
selling hearing aids throughout southeast Texas and running his own
business in this industry. In addition to his Jewish faith, he had a
strong work ethic and was dedicated to providing for his family,
continuing to work until a few weeks prior to his 79th birthday. Ross
Byers is survived by his loving wife, Louise
Byers of Houston, Texas, their son, Reed Henry Byers and his wife,
Angela, of Albany, Oregon, as well as their daughter, Rachel Byers
Kiernan of Bailey, Colorado. Predeceasing Ross were his parents and four
sisters: Camille Byers Merson; Berma Ruth Craig; Sybil Byers, who died
at the age of 18; and Maurine Byers, who passed away at the age of 3.
The Byers family wishes to give considerable thanks to Alice Russell,
for her care and devotion to Ross during these past few years. We also
wish to give thanks for the love and generosity toward the family by
Ross' nephews, Harry and Bob Merson. Funeral Services will be held at
2pm on Thursday, January 17th, 2013, at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral
Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023.

Phillips, George N. George Neal Phillips died on September 21, 2012. He was 91 years old. He enjoyed good health for all of those years, but suffered a heart attack and was not able to recover. George was born on June 9, 1921 in Nettleton, Arkansas, son of farmers James Avery and Cora Lee Phillips. George was determined not to forever 'look at the backside of a mule', and worked at a gasoline station in town, earning enough money to learn to fly airplanes. His mother was his first passenger in the biplane he learned to fly. When WWII came, pilots were in short supply, and he joined the Army Air Corps, but was transferred to the Marine Corps when they called. He flew transport planes throughout the Pacific during the 1940's. George met his wife, Mary Jo, after the war, while he was flying commercial airplanes in South America. They married in 1950 and moved to Hawaii where they spent some time together and Mary Jo waited while George, based in Japan, flew transport planes during the Korean conflict. George was very proud of his service with the United States Marine Corp, rising to a rank of Lt. Colonel before his retirement from the Reserves in 1963. His time as a military pilot in WWII prepared him for a career as an airline pilot, and he worked for Braniff Airways for almost thirty years before retiring in 1981. George is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Jo Phillips, by his son George Phillips, Jr. and daughter-in-law Tracey Smith; his son James Michael Phillips and daughter-in-law Leslie Phillips; daughter-in-law Lynn Phillips and by his four grandchildren, Scott Phillips, Jonathan Phillips, Payton Phillips and Avery Phillips. George was preceded in his death by his son, Ben Roy Phillips. A graveside funeral service with military honors will take place at 2 PM, Wednesday, September 26th, 2012, at Forest Grove Cemetery in Telephone, Texas. No flowers, instead please support your favorite charity.

		  http://www.legacy.com/link.asp?i=ls000158885949

		Herman Hymie Hirsh, to
many "HH", died on Wednesday August 1, 2012 at the VA Hospital of Dallas
Texas. There he had been cared for by so many dedicated individuals
over the last 6 weeks. The family thanks you! HH was a remarkable man.
Born in Los Angeles, CA, he left at the age of 17 for Texas where he
arrived with little education but a dream of succeeding at anything he
put his mind to. Every job he took, no matter the role, he accepted
with ambition. A self-made entrepreneur, HH designed and manufactured
fireplaces with Desert Ray which later led to the stainless steel
industry, and then to owning and operating Hi-Tech Stainless Steel
Specialties. He retired at the age of 90. He found many rewards within
this business. HH was most proud to design and build a stainless steel
cover for a book written by Stephen King, My Red Pony. Only 1000 were
made world wide and he was acknowledged in the New Yorker. Another
tribute was designing and manufacturing a replica of the Dallas Police
Department Badge which hangs on the Dallas Police head quarters building
in downtown Dallas. Lastly, an honor of fabricating much of the
stainless steel found at the Ball Park in Arlington. His name is
incorporated into the landscape of the ballpark itself as one of the
main contributors in building such an iconic structure. HH is survived
by so many that loved him. His wife, Lee Hirsh along with son David
Hirsh, his wife Lesli and daughter Harper. His daughter Jolie Powell,
her husband Brandon along with their children Jackson, Hudson &amp;
Evangeline. His son, Mike Hirsh, his wife Stevie and their children
Leslie and Brian and lastly his cousin Rose August. The Funeral Service
will be held for immediate family at the Dallas Ft. Worth National
Cemetery on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 9:15am. A Celebration of HH's life
will follow for family and friends at his home 9519 Spring Branch Dr.
Dallas, TX 75238 from 2:00 – 6:00, Come and go. In Lieu of flowers the
family requests a donation in Herman Hirsh's name to the following.

		Voluntary Services (135)

well as the address of 9519 Spring Branch Dr. Dallas, TX 75238
		Or

		We
thank you for your thoughts and prayers as well as the love and support
given during this difficult time. We know that HH touched many and we
are bestowed peace in this.

Charles "Chuck" Hodges (1941 - 2012)

Charles "Chuck" Hodges (1941 - 2012) Obituary&nbsp; Charles "Chuck" Hodges played the hand he was dealt; born November 3, 1941 and died April 19, 2012. He was known to many by several nicknames, such as Hard as Nails, Mirror Man, Chucky Cheese, Wimpy, Honey, Dad, and Pa Pa, but what he really loved was to crown a carefully chosen nickname on one of his many friends and relatives. His love of gambling was well known, and he would bet on underwater basket weaving if there was a line on it. He was an accomplished craps player, and was considered "too skilled a player" and banned forever from a casino. He loved to take novice gamblers to Las Vegas and teach them how to, "throw the bones." He was a product of the Wild West, born in Douglas, Ariz., but raised in his family home in Yuma, Ariz., coming from a distinguished line of founding pioneers of the Territory of Arizona. His Great Grandparents were Frances M. Hodges &amp; Francisca Ferra of La Paz, and Isaac Polhamus (the last steam boat Captain on the Colorado River) &amp; Sacramento Sambrano of La Paz. His Grandfather, Peter Hodges, and Agnes Polhamus produced this gentle giant of a father, Isaac "Buster" Polhamus Hodges, who married Zola Cox, all of Yuma, Ariz. When Zola died, Buster married Evelyn Rasco. His ancestors were river boat captains, shop keepers, mine owners, cattle ranchers, sheriffs, saloon and hotel owners, and a state legislator. Chuck received his primary education in El Centro, California, where friends knew him as the "Unofficial Mayor of Mexicali." Chuck then moved to Indio where he became the youngest manager of the Indio Bowling Alley. He bowled the first, league sanctioned 300-point game in Coachella Valley and over the years bowled four perfect games. Chuck worked for Kaiser Steel at Eagle Mountain for 10 years before joining the sales department of Sun World International, a local produce farming and marketing company. Chuck's transition from mining steel to growing vegetables was a successful one; Chuck ended his career with Sun World as Senior Vice President of Sales. He then formed his own produce marketing company, C H Sales, in 1992. In 1993, C H Sales merged with Sun &amp; Sands Enterprises to form Prime Time International and together they succeeded in becoming the largest grower of colored bell peppers in the United States. His family and friends knew him to be generous, kind, and loving. His favorite saying was "Everyone's gotta live!" He would give a $100 tip to the shoe shine boy, waitress, or his favorite valet. He loved to drop a Franklin on the ground behind a homeless person and say "Sir, Sir you dropped this" leaving them their dignity, or buying the little old lady a bouquet of roses in the check out line. He loved people! He delighted in giving them joy and sharing his wealth. His favorite game was being the consummate Host. If he allowed you to buy dinner, he always sprung for a special dessert; but be prepared for a charter flight to Vegas to enjoy that dessert. His world was Camelot, and he made each person who entered feel like a Queen or King. He was known for his fondness of red wine and chili peppers. He always had peppers in his pocket, eating a pound a week with his food, and never leaving the country without his stash. Apart from his professional life, Chuck was a member of the Palm Springs Men's Club and delighted taking their money in a friendly hand of poker. He served on the board of directors of the Well in the Desert and Pegasus Riding Academy. Among his many achievements, Chuck was selected in 2006 by California Women for Agriculture as "Agriculturalist of the Year" and in 2007, the Palm Springs Walk of Stars awarded Chuck and his wife Gayle with a star for their outstanding Humanitarianism and Entrepreneurs. Chuck was an avid supporter of the Future Farmers of America and was a generous bidder at the Riverside County Fair Junior Livestock Auction for over 25 years, buying hundreds of animals and donating the meat to charity. He supported the YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, Palm Canyon Theatre, Christian School of the Desert, Guide Dogs of the Desert, Angel View, and many other charities. On the evening of his death, he was surrounded by his family and loved ones as he took his last breath, fighting his last round with cancer, and folding his last hand. Chuck is survived by his loving wife Gayle; sons, Chris Hodges of Morongo Valley, Calif., James Hodges (Shannon), of Indio, Calif.; stepson Rollo (Jenny Page) of Santa Rosa Beach, three step daughters, Kim Hodges of Morongo Valley, Margie Welch of Morongo Valley, and Lisa Hodges of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; grandchildren, Kurysa, Jeremy, Nathan, James, Christen, Bryan, Sara, Sandra, and Alexis; sister, Ginger Mills (Aubrey) of Keremeos, B.C., Holly Williams of Peyton, Colo., and brother David Storch of Tucson, Ariz.; many nieces and nephews, and was preceded in death by his sister, Jenny Miller of Mesa, Ariz., and parents Buster and Evelyn Hodges of Indio. Chuck will always be remembered for his immense generosity. He gave freely to friend and stranger without ever needing thanks. Everyday of Chuck's life was truly better than the last. Chuck will be missed by his family, and the many friends, with whom he has shared a laugh, a bet, or offered a hand. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations to be made to the Well in the Desert, PO Box 5312, Palm Springs, CA 92263 or Pegasus Riding Academy, 35450 Pegasus Ct, Palm Desert, CA. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 16, 2012 at the Cahuilla Ball Room from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa, 32-250 Bob Hope DR, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270 Please call 760-262-1938 if attending. <div style="clear:both"></div>

Brody Reville Fleming

Brody Reville Fleming
1987-06-09&nbsp; -&nbsp; 2012-03-12
Brody
was born on June 9, 1987 in Houston, Texas and left his earthly body on
03-12-2012. He is the beloved son of Joy Fellenz and Jim Fleming, and
stepson of John Fellenz and Carrie Ann Moore. Brody was the cherished
brother of Colter Fleming and his fiancee Kelly Sindler, step-brother
to Kelly and Tim Blackstone, Courtney and Matt Hole; he is also survived
by loving grandmothers Bette Bradley and Lucille Fleming and a host of
uncles, aunts, cousins, friends and family members. Brodys
educational path took many twists and turns. He attended Annelieses
Preschool, Top of the World Elementary School, St. Annes Catholic
School, St. Margarets Episcopal School, Capistrano Valley Christian
School and Trabuco Hills High School in Orange County, CA. He also
attended Westridge Middle School and Westlake High School in Austin, TX
graduating in 2005 from R.L.
Turner in Carrollton, TX. Brody entered The University of Nevada Las
Vegas in the fall of 2005 but decided after the first semester to enlist
in The United States Navy. He served at Atsugi Naval Air Station in
Japan. Coming back to the states, Brody enrolled at Blinn College,
Brenham but after driving by TEEX Fire Academy in College Station
realized his dream ambition was to become a firefighter/paramedic. He
completed firefighter training at Desoto Fire Academy, EMT training and
paramedic school at Blinn College, Bryan, Texas. Brody was a terrific
athlete, a child actor and model, a bartender and bouncer, valet car
parker, waiter, EMS driver, but it was when he got hired by the Plano
Fire Department on June 20, 2011 that Brody found his true calling, his
passion and his career for life. The family wishes to express their
deepest and most sincere appreciation to the Plano Fire Department and
Fort Worth Fire Department for anticipating our every need,
offering friendship, support and comfort during this time of grief. We
are forever grateful that when Brody was called to heaven he had
achieved his greatest ambitions that of being a fireman for the City of
Plano. Brody's earthly body will be donated to LifeGift, a
not-for-profit organ procurement organization whose commitment is to
save the lives of men, women and children waiting for lifesaving and
life-enhancing organ and tissue transplants. Brody was a sweet soul who

that others can benefit. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation
to The Brody Fleming Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo Bank. The Brody
Fleming Memorial Fund will seek to provide scholarships for worthy young
people to pursue their dreams of becoming a firefighter and assist in
colon disease and neuroscience research. To contribute, stop by or call
your nearest Wells Fargo branch and ask to deposit
funds dedicated for this account. Questions may be emailed to colter.fleming@gmail.com A service and celebration of Brody's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 16th at Christ United Methodist Church, 3101 Coit Road, Plano, Texas , located at the intersection of Coit and Parker Roads. There will be a reception to follow the service.

Joy Fellenz's son's passing and service location

  Link for WFAA video http://www.wfaa.com/news/health/Plano-Firefighters-mourn-loss-142547495.html
   PLANO
&nbsp;— The Plano Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its
youngest firefighters. Brody Fleming, 24, died Monday afternoon from a
stroke, his family said.
"The kid was in great health," said his brother, Colter Fleming,
27, as he packed up his little brother's now empty apartment in The
Colony. "You just never know when God is calling you home."
He said Fleming suddenly collapsed at a friend's home on Wednesday and died days later at Texas Health Fort Worth Hospital.
His family said Fleming was largely healthy, exercised often, and worked a very physical job as a Plano firefighter.
After Brody Fleming graduated from Carrollton's R. L. Turner High
School in 2005, he enlisted in the Navy before joining the Plano Fire
Department in June, 2011.
"Brody had a real passion for saving lives," his brother said. "Brody ran to things other people shied away from."
He said Brody suffered from ulcerative colitis — a colon disease —
but his family said doctors gave no indication it caused the stroke.
Long considered a problem for older people, strokes are rising
among the young. Recent research shows more young people and adults are
being hospitalized for stroke, even as the rates drop in older
Americans.
The American Stroke Association
says the number of ischemic strokes in 15- to 34-year-old men jumped by
51 percent from 1994 to 2007. Over the same time period, it dropped by
nearly 25 percent for men over the age of 45.
"We cannot link anything in particular to the trend in younger
patients," wrote Xin Tong, a health statistician with the Centers for
Disease Control, in a statement when the study was released last year.
"I believe the role of obesity and hypertension will prompt a big
discussion. Unfortunately, right now we can't speculate on the causes."
Stroke occurs when blood is cut off to the brain — either by a clot
or a burst blood vessel. High blood pressure, smoking, and diabetes are
all considered risk factors.
According to the American Stroke
Association, strokes kill more than 137,000 people a year, making it the
fourth leading cause of death in the United States.
Colter Fleming said his brother's stroke arrived "out of the blue"
and in the prime of Brody's life. "He had his apartment; he had the
truck he always wanted; he had the greatest job you could ever think
about," he said. "You really only get one chance in life, so use it."
A memorial service for Firefighter Fleming will be held on Friday, March 16 at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Plano.
Fleming's family donated his organs

Judy Foster Bauer Mallen

Judy was an airline hostess for Braniff for
20 years and she is now facing recovery from Cancer and Stem Cell
Replacement.&nbsp;&nbsp; Here is a&nbsp;recent e-mail and Facebook post for
your information.&nbsp;&nbsp; Thought maybe you could circulate this so that
some of her former co-workers might have&nbsp;a chance to help
  out.

     &nbsp;

Most of you receiving this email
know of Judy's battle with Cancer, including stem cell replacement and then
the CMV virus which decided to interfere with treatment. With her upbeat
attitude, determination, and faith in God, she continues to overcome
  adversity.

   &nbsp;

A lot of relatives and friends have
wondered what they can do to help out since even visits, sending flowers, etc.
has not been possible because of the necessity of protecting her from other
viruses and illnesses. THERE IS NOW SOMETHING WE CAN
  DO!

   &nbsp;

    The length and intensity of
treatment has resulted in extremely high medical bills. Even with insurance
there are deductibles, co-pays and limits to what insurance will cover. It has
created quite a strain and I understand she has even sold her car to help with
expenses. Her employer could no longer hold her job and that was not pleasing
news. She has now joined the ranks of us "retirees" and signed up for Social
Security. A little income will help but the medical bills continue to pile
  up.

   &nbsp;

If you would care to help out, a
bank account has been established to accept
  donations:

   &nbsp;

    JUDY MALLEN MEDICAL
  FUND

    c/o Bank of Lee's
  Summit

    210 S. W. Main
  St.

     Lee's Summit, Mo.
  64063

   &nbsp;

Checks should be made out to the
fund and envelopes should be addressed with the fund and bank name as
  above.

   &nbsp;

We will also have a flyer ready soon
for handing out at work, church, neighborhood businesses, etc. -- especially
in areas where Judy is known. Any ideas or help with the fundraising will be
appreciated. I will attach a list of people on my e-mail list. If someone you
know is not on the list, please forward this e-mail to
  them.

   &nbsp;

JUDY IS WORKING SO HARD TO BEAT THIS
DISEASE! I know she and her family will be ever so grateful for your
  thoughtfulness.

   &nbsp;

    Thank you for your
  consideration

    Linda McNiel (Judy's
  cousin) <div style="clear:both"></div>

Bill Pace, Latest UPDATE

   Hi All,
    &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The notes
below, are about the next facility that Bill will be going to.&nbsp; My
daughter, Wendy, was in town for&nbsp; a couple of days to help out &amp; she
took these notes while we toured.&nbsp; She was so wonderfully helpful, as we
felt compelled to participate in some serious shopping therapy.&nbsp; Testing
delectable meals &amp; things like that, I couldn't have possibly done without
  her help!!&nbsp; &lt;giggle&gt;
    &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; As you will
recall, Bill was&nbsp; taken by ambulance from Remington hospital on the 23rd,
&amp; delivered to Presbyterian Hospital &amp; taken almost immediately into
surgery, to debraid the infections.&nbsp; It was approx a 19 x 19cm area of
his upper thigh that was involved.&nbsp; Took him back into surgery at noon on
the 25th.&nbsp; That was to remove the packing that was in the cleaned out
wound.&nbsp; (hey, after 30 days in the hospital, I may have my dates a little
  messed up!)&nbsp; Anyway, he was awake &amp; alert and back in his room &amp;
announced he was hungry.&nbsp; That was soooooo thrilling because he has NOT
been eating worth a flip for the past month.&nbsp; We brought him a Subway
sandwich &amp; he devoured it!&nbsp; YEA!
    &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; As of today
they have put the negative pressure machine on the wound area.&nbsp; It is
like a vacuum that is pulling out any of the infection that may be remaining,
plus helping the wound to heal faster from the inside to the outside.
The&nbsp;Drs. will be cleaning out the wound physically about every 3 days,
but at all other times the "pump" will be on him 24/7.&nbsp; They are still
giving him morphine before attacking the wound site.&nbsp; They are pleased
with the progress he is making so they plan to transfer him on Monday or
Tuesday if everything continues to improve as it is doing now.&nbsp; Today
they re-inserted the Pick line, as they need him to be taking the antibiotics
through an IV.&nbsp; It will not come out, until they release him from Triumph
  Hospital.
    &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The Triumph
hospital is the one that the doctors ordered him to go to....the 4 doctors
that are involved with his care all go to that Rehab hospital, which is why
  they are sending us there.&nbsp; It is only about 5 minutes from Presby.&nbsp;
The estimate at this time is 2 - 4 weeks at Triumph hospital.
    &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He
is&nbsp;&nbsp;getting better &amp; better, but he is still a long ways from
well.&nbsp; Also, it is going to take a while to build up his strength after
spending so long in hospital beds .
    &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; As always,
thanks for your caring &amp; concern &amp; prayers for Bill.
   &nbsp;
    Sherry <div style="clear:both"></div>

Bill Pace, UPDATE

   Hi All,
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Below is the report written&nbsp; by a
good friend, that was a professor of Nursing for many years.&nbsp; Within an
hour and 1/2 of arriving to Presbyterian Hospital (Walnut Hill lane) he was
wheeled into surgery.&nbsp; It seemed like the surgery was10 squillion hours
long, but in reality it was about 3 - 4 hours.&nbsp; The DR.(wound
specialist surgeon) said it was extensive, and should have been addressed
much earlier.&nbsp; The actual wound site is approx. 19 x19
cm.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He didn't tell me the depth, but had to go down to the
muscle area.&nbsp; I don't think they cut any actual muscle.&nbsp; They will
take him back into surgery on Thursday to take out the dressing that they
have put in the wound.&nbsp; Apparently it will be to agonizing to be awake
for the changing of the dressing.&nbsp; I don't know how often that dressing
has to be changed.&nbsp; All I know is that it has to heal from the
inside&nbsp; to the outside &amp; there is a possibility of needing skin
graft after he recovers.&nbsp; staff always has the dickens of a time
finding veins so he was needled to pieces last night....could be a secret
cult of vampires reside at Presby.????? &lt;giggle&gt;&nbsp; As always, pass
this info around too anyone you think would like to know and please still
    keep him in your prayers.
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Jeff , my son, sat with me in the
hospital last night, and Wendy, my daughter, is flying in tomorrow to stay
the weekend to help me out.&nbsp; I have ot been abale to talk to his son
yet, but it will be done before the day is over.
      Hugs
      Sherry <div style="clear:both"></div>

John Gregory McFarlane

  John Gregory
McFarlane of Palm Springs, California , passed away on February 27, 2011,
while on a business trip to Toronto, Canada. Known as "John" to his
friends and colleagues, and as "Gregg" to family and home-town
acquaintances, John Gregory was born in Del Rio, Texas , on January 1,
1954.&nbsp; The first baby born in Del Rio that year, his arrival was a
celebrated event appropriate for the joy that he would bring to so many
people during his 57 years. Growing up in Del Rio, John identified his
career direction early in life.&nbsp; His passion for flying was
documented when as a teenager, he received his first pilot's license
before he was old enough to hold a Texas driver's license.&nbsp; More than
a quarter century later, John's continuing love of flying led him to
enroll at the Sierra Academy of Aeronautics in San Francisco , aiming to
qualify on twin-engine aircraft.&nbsp; He was a member of AOPA ( Aircraft
Owners and Pilots Association ) for many years, and was looking forward to
returning to flying, having recently re-qualified for his private pilot
license . Shortly after graduating from Del Rio High School in 1972,
John set off for Dallas to attend the Braniff Career Academy.&nbsp; He
thrived at the Academy, joining Braniff International Airways as a flight
attendant, where he represented Braniff with distinction until the company
ceased operations in 1989.&nbsp; While Braniff was undergoing
  reorganization from  1982 to 1984, John flew for  Piedmont Airlines .&nbsp;
In 1990, John joined American Airlines , where he was still working out of
the Los Angeles International Airport base at the time of his
passing.&nbsp; While serving American Airlines with the same exemplary
  service he was known for at  Braniff, John began a secondary career.&nbsp;
In 1992, he became a Licensed Vocational Nurse , and worked for a time at
St. Mary's Medical Center in San Francisco. John's career in
aviation afforded him enough free hours to pursue his entrepreneurial
ambitions.&nbsp; He was involved with several creative ventures before
successfully founding HMC Real Estate (Hoban McFarlane Company) with his
partner Richard J. Hoban.&nbsp; The partners became licensed California
real estate brokers with operations and agents in Los Angeles , San
Francisco , Palm Springs and Murphys.&nbsp; Mr. McFarlane was President of
the company, but more importantly, was the heart and soul of the
company. One of the joys of Johns life was his membership in the
  Clipped B's, a  social organization for Braniff Flight Attendants.&nbsp;
John loved all his Braniff girls, as he always referred to them.&nbsp; He
was a very enthusiastic, active member of the club.&nbsp; He secured and
organized travel benefits for all members, participated in various fund
raising, helped organize annual reunions and other events, and was a
friend to all the club members. Mr. McFarlane's family and
countless friends loved him as a principled individual with an abundance
of those human traits that matter the most.&nbsp; He had a profoundly easy
sense of humor, loyalty, compassion, courage, industry and an uncanny
ability to spread good humor.&nbsp; He was the glue that held us together,
whether we were his extended family or his Braniff alumni.&nbsp; He was
the son who provided comfort, the brother who was always there, the uncle
who provided hope, the friend who did whatever had to be done, the guy who
made life fun when he was around.&nbsp; We shall miss him
deeply. John Gregory McFarlane is survived by his partner in life,
Richard Hoban of Palm Springs, his parents Alvis and Evelyn McFarlane of
Del Rio, Texas , his brother and sister-in-law Harold and Mary Ellen
McFarlane of Idaho Falls, Idaho , and his nephew Matthew McFarlane of
Boise, Idaho . A celebration of John's life will be held Sunday, March
13 2011 from 5pm to 7pm, at Escena Golf Club, 1100 Club House View Drive,
Palm Springs 92262 . In deference to John's nurturing spirit, we
request that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his
memory to The Wings Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 610563, DFW Airport, TX

Hi to my Braniff friends,

It's Nikki Evans Powell Godwin
Gerloff here. I only had the first 3 names at the times I flew. I
started in Aug. of 72 and continued until a few months before the final
end of Braniff (including start-ups). I was always based in Dallas but spent many years living in Austin and commuting. I usually flew Hawaii or the international trips to Europe or the Far East routes as well as the&nbsp;South American charters.
&nbsp;
&nbsp;I will not be able to attend as my son, Hunter Evans Godwin 22,&nbsp;died mysteriously following orthoscopic knee surgery&nbsp;in Austin last week. Hunter's service will be held on January 28 , Friday at 2:00 at the First United Methodist Church in Austin across the street west of the State Capitol . A Celebration of Life will follow at 4:00 at the Botanical Gardens across Barton Springs Dr . from Zilker Park .
&nbsp;
Anyone unable to attend the reunion but will be in Austin on
Friday, will be made welcome as we celebrate Hunter's life and share
our&nbsp;gratitude that we both had and knew Hunter for his brief time on
Earth.
&nbsp;
In loving regards,
Nikki <div style="clear:both"></div>

Greetings from the Braniff Airlines Retirement Club

  Gerald L. ( Butch
) Hunt, President

     I
just want to take a few minutes to Thank both groups, the Clipped B’s
and the Pilots Group for attending the Braniff Airlines Christmas
Gala on the 12 th
of December. HISTORY WAS MADE ON THAT DAY !! That was the first time
all 3 of our groups have gotten together for a party like this.
    A
personal Thanks from me goes to Judy Giles for organizing the silent
auction. Sally Campbell for organizing the catering services. Ron
Campbell for his beautiful workmanship in making the oak encasement
for the flag I presented.
    A
great honor was paid to me by Mr and Mrs Bill Schoknecht of the
BISE”S and Pat Dixon, President of the Clipped B’s. Both Bill and
Pat expressed a desire in continuing on with this Christmas Gala. The
question at this time is if we will make it an annual event or every
other year. At this time no decision has been made. Later in the year
this plan will be discussed and a decision made on how to continue.
    As
former Braniff employees our retirement club admires the bond the
flight attendants and pilots and even our own members have created
and how everyone has persevered in the most challenging of decades in
aviation history by keeping Braniff alive in the hearts of so many.
    By
all of us being together for this event, we have created a bond among
us which is a result of Compassion..Courage.. and Conviction. We have
many things in common, the least of which is a passion for
Comraderie. We will continue to build a strong and never ending
future because of the love we have for one another.
    Thank
You again for attending the Gala event and remember:
  WE
STRIVE TO KEEP BRANIFF ALIVE ! ! !

  Gerald
L. (Butch) Hunt, President
  Braniff
Airlines Retirement Club

Palm Springs Clipped B convention

Dear Clipped B's &nbsp; &nbsp;Three of your Houston members attended the Palm Springs &nbsp;Clipped B convention.&nbsp;&nbsp; I think Louise &nbsp;Gammage, Pattie Pixley, and Sylvia Russell agree that &nbsp;Gayle Hughes and John McFarland out did themselves with all &nbsp;the activities they arranged.&nbsp; Outstanding events &nbsp;included a night street fair, a tour of Chuck Hughes's &nbsp;pepper production industry, lunch at the casino, dinner and &nbsp;entertainment at the Buddy Greco Dinner Club,&nbsp; an &nbsp;afternoon show of the Senior Follies and a closing night &nbsp;banquet at our hotel.&nbsp;&nbsp; Although we have gone &nbsp;on to happy and fulfilling lives, it is a pleasure to see &nbsp;friends from our past. All of my best wishes to all of you &gt; Sylvia Hanna-Russell&nbsp;<div style="clear:both"></div>
